Throwaway People spawned out of College Station in the mid- '90s as a guitar/bass/drums trio whose sound was heavily influenced by Texas Blues a la the style of Stevie Ray Vaughan. The band has since grown in both numbers and musical range to become a seven piece ensemble including a horn section, keyboards, and two lead vocalists.
Anchored by the seamless rhythm team of bassist Justin Kirk and drummer Sam Pulley, Throwaway People's lineup represents a diverse set of influences that unite in one, multi-dimensional sound. With Rachael Williams on vocals, Craig Hanna on guitar and vocals, Roger McNichols on keyboards, Jason Whiteman on saxophone, and Mark Oakland on Trumpet, Throwaway People applies a sense of classic analog groove to a fresh, progressive dimension of creative freedom favoring organic development over stylistic homogeneity. Jazz, rock, blues, and Latin music styles all find their way into Throwaway People's ecclectic fusion. Now known for their intense, groove-ridden funk and soul, the Throwaway People consistently push categorical boundaries while embracing a treasured roots tradition.      Playing shows throughout Texas, Throwaway People have had the privilege of sharing the stage with several well known artists including Chris Duarte, Blues Traveler, Breedlove, Papa Mali, The Killer Bees, Steamroller, and Joe King Carrasco to name a few. Throwaway People have also been the backing band for Dallas band Shabazz3, extending their reach into the world of hip-hop. In 1999, Throwaway People released their first studio effort "Marylin Thunderland (back from Malibu part 1). In 2003, their sophomore release "While You Fly" is out and under promotion by the group. Recorded at World Axis Studio in Austin, Texas and produced by the Chris Duarte Group's bassist, John Jordan, the album is groove-essential. Using all Throwaway People original material, John Jordan sculpted the groups individual styles to mold a funky, Texas groove album that defies categorization. throwawaypeople@hotmail.com BOOKING: 979-224-0864 |
